Below are some scriptures from the Bible describing how and why we should acquire salvation.
"Why" - Everyone has sinned.
ROMANS 3: 23
For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
"Why" - Punishment for sin.
ROMANS 6: 23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
"Why" - Salvation is a gift.
EPHESIANS 2: 8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.
"Why" - Salvation is for all.
JOHN 3: 16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
"How" - Confess our Sins.
1st JOHN 1: 9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
"How" - Repent.
LUKE 13: 3
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
"How" - Believe.
ACTS 16: 31
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
"How" - Decide and Receive.
2nd CORINTHIANS 6: 2
(For he saith, I HAVE HEARD THEE IN A TIME ACCEPTED, AND IN THE DAY OF SALVATION HAVE I SUCCORED THEE: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
